When it was completely dark, the falls disappeared. What remained was sound. Without the distraction of sight, the water felt louder, heavier. The river kept moving in the blackness while the stars burned overhead, sharp and intensely bright.
Standing there, it felt like two different worlds at once. The earth was hidden in shadow, but the sky was wide awake.
