I traveled to Minnesota with one goal, to find a Great Grey Owl. The conditions were bitter and the light scarce, but this is where they live, in the quiet edges of deep winter.
When this owl moved through the dark forest, it did not feel loud or dramatic. It felt controlled. Silent. Present. The yellow eye cut through the blue shadows, and for a brief second, everything aligned.
